Jumping spiders are fantastic creatures. Spiders are paint a dull, negative and creepy picture in our mind but the Jumping spider is unusually cute. Jumping spiders are very common and often end up being squished by chappals when spotted in homes. They don't build webs to catch their prey. Jumping spiders-as the name suggests- jump around and hunt their food. they have 4 pairs of eyes and a 360 degree vision. they eyes in the sides and back are called Anterior lateral eyes(ALE) and posterior lateral eyes(PLE) respectively. The prominent eyes in the front side- anterior median eyes(AME), that give it the mischievous looks, have a good vision. The other 3 pairs are have weak vision and in some types of jumping spider they are vestigial.
The eyes of the spider look like little, finely-carved Onyx stones. Don't be mistaken, these minuscule creatures have an intellect far beyond their size. However, they cant identify their own reflection in the mirror. Check the Brown Jumping Spider for more on that.
I have seen 3 different types of Jumping spider, I call them brown jumping spider, skunk-like jumping spider and gemstone jumping spider.
